Chapter 5 - The Mountain Fortress

The armored transport van tore up the winding, treacherous mountain road at a terrifying speed.
I held tightly to the steel safety handles, feeling every violent bump and sharp turn in my aching bones.
Marcus shouted orders to his tactical team, finalizing the desperate infiltration plan as the clock ticked down.
We arrived at the base of the mountain, hiding the heavy vehicles beneath a thick canopy of pine trees.
The freezing mountain rain battered us as we unloaded the gear and sprinted toward the hidden drainage tunnel.
Marcus used a heavy plasma torch to silently slice through the rusted iron bars blocking the forgotten entrance.
We waded through freezing, knee-deep water, the smell of damp earth and old metal filling my lungs.
I refused to slow down, driven purely by the terrifying thought of my newborn granddaughter flying away forever.
We reached the subterranean maintenance hatch, and Marcus quickly bypassed the electronic lock using my husband's old override codes.
I pushed the heavy metal grate open, stepping quietly into the sterile, brightly lit basement of the psychiatric compound.
Two of Eleanor’s armed guards were patrolling the hallway, casually drinking coffee and laughing.
Before they could even register our presence, Marcus and his men neutralized them with terrifying, silent efficiency.
We dragged their unconscious bodies into a janitor's closet and moved rapidly toward the central elevator shaft.
Marcus hacked the elevator controls, sending the heavy steel car directly up to the high-security roof access floor.
The elevator doors silently parted, revealing a massive, heavily guarded medical ward completely isolated from the rest of the world.
I spotted Rachel through a reinforced glass window, strapped down to a hospital bed with heavy leather restraints.
She looked incredibly pale and exhausted, but her fierce eyes were wide open and fighting the restraints.
I ordered two of Marcus's men to breach the room and get my daughter out of those monstrous leather belts.
I sprinted down the hallway with Marcus, heading directly for the heavy steel doors leading to the rooftop helipad.
The deafening roar of the helicopter blades vibrated intensely through the reinforced concrete walls.
We kicked the heavy roof doors open, stepping out into the freezing, torrential mountain storm.
The massive luxury helicopter was already lifting off the wet tarmac, the landing skids hovering ten feet in the air.
Eleanor was standing inside the open cabin door, holding little Lily tightly in her arms while screaming at the pilot to go faster.
Tyler was standing beside his mother, looking completely terrified as he saw me march onto the roof with a gun.
I raised the suppressed pistol, aiming directly at the helicopter's delicate tail rotor.
May you like
Before I could pull the trigger, Tyler made a decision that completely froze the blood in my veins.
He grabbed my crying granddaughter from Eleanor's arms and held the tiny baby out over the open edge of the rising helicopter.
