Chapter 7 - The Burning Sky

The sudden explosion of flames threw Eleanor backward violently into the plush leather seats of the helicopter cabin.
The aircraft violently lurched sideways, the pilot screaming in pure panic as he fought to maintain control of the burning machine.
Tyler lost his balance entirely, stumbling forward toward the open, fiery doorway with Lily still clutched in his arms.
Rachel did not hesitate for even a fraction of a second, completely ignoring the intense heat blistering her pale skin.
She lunged forward, grabbing Tyler by the collar of his expensive shirt and ripping him completely out of the hovering aircraft.
They both crashed heavily onto the wet, freezing concrete of the rooftop, rolling dangerously close to the edge of the building.
I sprinted through the smoke and grabbed Lily from Tyler's arms the moment they hit the ground.
I pulled my precious granddaughter tightly against my chest, shielding her tiny face from the chaotic wind and the searing heat.
Tyler groaned in agony, clutching his shattered shoulder as he tried to crawl away from his furious wife.
Rachel stood over him, her chest heaving as she raised the heavy fire axe above her head one final time.
I screamed her name, begging her not to throw her entire life away for a pathetic, worthless coward like Tyler.
Rachel froze, the heavy steel blade hovering just inches above Tyler's terrified, tear-streaked face.
She looked at me holding her safe, breathing baby, and the murderous rage slowly melted away into profound, exhausted relief.
She dropped the heavy axe onto the concrete and collapsed into my arms, sobbing uncontrollably against my shoulder.
Above us, the burning helicopter spun violently out of control, unable to sustain altitude with a ruptured hydraulic line.
The pilot desperately guided the flaming aircraft away from the hospital roof, aiming for the dark, empty forest below.
The helicopter crashed heavily into the dense pine trees, erupting into a massive, blinding column of orange fire and black smoke.
Marcus rushed over to us, checking Lily for injuries and wrapping a thick thermal blanket around Rachel's shivering shoulders.
He quickly ordered his tactical team to secure Tyler with heavy steel handcuffs and drag him toward the elevator.
We had finally won the battle, rescuing my family from the terrible nightmare Eleanor had so carefully constructed.
I looked down at the burning wreckage in the distant forest, feeling a cold, grim satisfaction that the monster was finally dead.
We descended the elevator and loaded everyone safely into the armored transport van, leaving the ruined compound behind.
As we drove back down the dark mountain road, my secure phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming video message.
I opened the file, expecting a status report from one of Marcus's scouting units in the city.

Instead, a chilling live feed opened, showing a horribly burned Eleanor sitting in the back of an unknown medical vehicle.
She smiled through her charred, bleeding lips and whispered, "Did you really think I only had one helicopter?"
