Chapter 10 - The Resolution

I immediately stepped back and called the police, refusing to take any chances.
Officers arrived quickly, sweeping the entire property to ensure no one was hiding inside.
They determined that Brent must have torn up the floorboards in a desperate search for valuables before he was arrested.
Thankfully, nothing of importance was missing, and the damage was purely cosmetic.
I hired a local contractor the very next morning, and within three days, the floor was perfectly restored.
My consulting business signed two major contracts that same week, giving me the largest financial safety net I had ever known.
With my toxic family completely removed from my life by the justice system, my home finally felt like a sanctuary.
I sat on my wooden dock at sunset, sipping hot coffee and watching the water ripple peacefully against the wood.
The nightmare was officially over, and I had protected everything I had sacrificed so much to build.
I closed my eyes, letting the cool evening breeze wash over me.
Suddenly, my cell phone buzzed in my pocket with an unknown restricted number.
I answered it cautiously, hearing nothing but heavy breathing on the other end.
