Chapter 8 - The Barricade

Greg’s cowardly confession echoed loudly across the stunned courtroom.
He proudly shouted that my parents had actively helped him plan the entire financial takeover.
My mother let out a dramatic gasp and dramatically fainted into my father’s arms.
The judge ordered the bailiffs to detain my parents for questioning regarding the massive fraud conspiracy.
Karla used the chaotic distraction to slip out the back doors of the courtroom and disappear completely.
I walked out of the courthouse feeling an incredible, overwhelming sense of victorious justice.
Sterling handed me the official eviction order signed directly by the furious judge.
"The police are authorized to forcibly remove anyone remaining in your apartment," Sterling assured me.
I drove to the apartment complex, eager to finally reclaim my stolen home and my peace of mind.
Three police cruisers were already parked in front of the building with their lights flashing brightly.
I approached the lead officer and handed him the official, stamped eviction order.
The officer shook his head grimly and pointed up to the third-floor window of my apartment.
"We cannot execute the eviction safely at this current moment," the officer explained cautiously.
I looked up and saw my father standing in the window, holding a heavy steel pipe.
My parents had somehow escaped the courthouse detention room and beaten me back to the property.
They had completely barricaded the heavy front door from the inside with heavy furniture.
"They are refusing to surrender the premises," the officer stated, stepping back behind his vehicle.
I demanded to know why heavily armed police officers could not simply break down a wooden door.
The officer pulled his police radio from his tactical belt and turned the volume up so I could hear.
"The suspect called 911 five minutes ago and made a highly credible terrorist threat," the officer said.
The dispatcher's voice crackled over the radio, repeating the terrifying details of my father's phone call.

My father had intentionally severed the main natural gas line inside the apartment kitchen.
He threatened to strike a match and blow the entire building to ashes if anyone tried to enter.
