Chapter 7 - The Gala Crashers

We parked three blocks away from the downtown museum to avoid the expensive valet service.

I wore a stunning black evening gown, and Daniel wore a sharp tuxedo he had hidden in the back of his closet.

We confidently bypassed the main security checkpoint by slipping through the busy catering kitchen entrance.

The grand ballroom was packed entirely with the wealthiest and most powerful people in the entire state.

Margaret was standing near the center stage, wearing a ridiculous diamond necklace and sipping expensive champagne.

Mark was sitting at a VIP table near the front, laughing loudly with a group of local politicians.

I told Daniel to stay hidden in the shadows near the bar while I went to secure the DNA sample.

I grabbed a silver tray from an abandoned catering cart and pretended to be a glamorous server.

I slowly maneuvered my way through the massive crowd, keeping my eyes locked on Mark's table.

Mark finished his glass of expensive red wine and set the empty crystal goblet down on the white tablecloth.

This was the absolute perfect opportunity to get his saliva sample for the paternity test.

I walked smoothly up to the table, offered a polite smile, and reached out to collect his empty glass.

Just as my fingers brushed the crystal stem, a cold, manicured hand grabbed my wrist incredibly tight.

I looked up in sheer panic and locked eyes directly with Mark's sophisticated wife, Jessica.

Jessica stared holes into my soul, instantly recognizing me despite my clever disguise.

She knew Daniel and I were legally banned from being anywhere near this family gathering.

I prepared for her to scream for security and have me arrested right in front of the entire city.

Instead, Jessica looked around carefully to ensure Margaret was completely distracted by the photographers.

Jessica released my wrist, picked up Mark's dirty wine glass, and handed it directly to me.

She leaned in incredibly close and whispered a highly dangerous secret into my ear.

She told me she utterly despised Margaret, and she knew exactly where the original, real DNA test was hidden.
