Chapter 3 - The Secret Visit

Daniel was officially a wanted man in our local county.
We spent the entire night calling expensive defense attorneys who demanded massive upfront retainers.
Since our accounts were completely frozen, not a single lawyer would agree to take our desperate case.
I realized we could not fight Margaret's endless financial power through normal legal channels.
We had to completely destroy the foundation of her lies by proving the DNA test was entirely fake.
The next morning, I told Daniel to stay hidden in the house with Lily while I went out.
I drove my car across town to the prestigious medical clinic listed on Margaret's forged documents.
I walked into the sterile lobby and demanded to speak with the head of medical records.
A nervous receptionist told me they could not disclose patient information without a court order.
I refused to leave, threatening to call the local news stations and expose their fraudulent medical practices.
The clinic director finally stepped out of his office to speak with me in private.
I showed him the fake DNA document Margaret had given to my husband.
The director looked at the paper carefully and let out a very long, heavy sigh.
He admitted that the official letterhead was real, but the results had been manually altered.
I demanded to know who had originally requested the paternity test in the first place.
The director typed a confidential code into his computer and pulled up the original medical file.
He turned the monitor around to show me the verified electronic signature on the request form.
My heart instantly plummeted into my stomach when I read the name on the screen.

Margaret had not ordered the paternity test behind our backs.
The official request had been signed and paid for by my husband, Daniel, exactly seven years ago.
