Chapter 6 - The Corrupt Courtroom

Daniel was completely paralyzed by the horrific news broadcast playing on the television screen.

Margaret was not just trying to steal his daughter, she was actively trying to send him to federal prison.

The embezzlement accusations meant the FBI would likely be knocking on our door by tomorrow morning.

We had exactly one single night to find the ultimate leverage that would force Margaret to surrender.

I realized that arguing our innocence was completely useless against a woman with infinite money and connections.

We had to find a devastating secret that would destroy her pristine standing with Grandpa Arthur.

Arthur was the ancient patriarch of the family who tightly controlled the entire Whitmore billion-dollar trust fund.

He demanded absolute moral perfection from his heirs, and any scandal meant instant disinheritance.

I looked at the framed family photographs hanging beautifully on our living room wall.

I stared closely at a picture of Daniel standing next to his older brother, Mark.

Daniel had the distinct dark hair, sharp jawline, and green eyes of the Whitmore bloodline.

Mark had light blonde hair, soft features, and bright blue eyes that did not match anyone else in the entire family.

A wild, desperate theory began to rapidly form in my racing mind.

Margaret had always favored Mark, fiercely protecting him and treating Daniel like a complete outsider.

What if Margaret was projecting her own dark sins onto me because she was the actual cheater?

I told Daniel my crazy theory, and he admitted he had always wondered why Mark looked so different.

We desperately needed to get a sample of Mark's DNA to prove he was not a legitimate Whitmore heir.

The only problem was the incredibly strict restraining order keeping us far away from Mark and Margaret.

However, I remembered that Margaret was hosting a massive charity gala at the downtown museum tonight.

Mark was scheduled to give a public speech at the highly exclusive event.

I looked at Daniel with fierce determination and told him to go find my best black evening gown.

We were going to crash the biggest high-society party of the year.
