Chapter 8 - The Desperate Deal

I stared at the terrifying criminal standing beside me.
"You knew my father?" I whispered, my mind spinning entirely out of control.
Vance nodded respectfully, adjusting the cuffs of his expensive suit.
"He financed my first legitimate business when nobody else would give me a second glance," Vance explained.
He turned his attention back to the reinforced hospital door.
"Daniel borrowed three million dollars from my organization to fund his pathetic gambling addiction," he told me.
Vance pulled a heavy tactical radio from his belt.
"He promised me five million from an insurance payout, but I hate dealing with child killers."
Vance offered me a cold, terrifyingly calm proposition.
"Transfer Daniel's debt amount to my offshore account right now, and I will personally handle your husband."
I looked at Arthur, who gave me a sharp, confirming nod.
"The trust has an emergency discretionary fund, I can authorize the wire transfer immediately," Arthur confirmed.
I did not hesitate for a single second.
I pressed my hand against the glass, glaring with pure hatred at the man I once loved.
"Pay him," I ordered Arthur.
Arthur tapped rapidly on his tablet, and within ten seconds, Vance's phone chimed with a massive banking deposit.
Vance smiled, a terrifying expression that promised absolute violence.
He signaled to his heavily armed men to prepare to breach the reinforced door.
"We are coming in, Daniel, and you have nowhere left to hide," Vance announced through the intercom.
Daniel let out a pathetic shriek of absolute terror.
Instead of dropping his weapon, he grabbed a medical syringe from the counter.

He filled it completely with empty air and held it directly over Lily's intravenous line.
"Back off, or I will stop her heart right now!" Daniel screamed like a cornered rat.
