Chapter 7 - The Syndicate's Shadow

The entire hospital floor erupted into absolute chaos.
Nurses scrambled to evacuate the surrounding rooms while alarms began to blare.
I pounded my fists aggressively against the reinforced glass of the door.
"Please, Daniel, do not hurt her!" I sobbed hysterically.
Daniel simply glared at me, pressing the barrel of the weapon against the main oxygen monitor.
"Sign the trust fund transfer papers right now, Rachel, or she doesn't make it out of this room!" he demanded.
I turned to Arthur, begging him to just give Daniel whatever he wanted.
But before Arthur could prepare the digital transfer, the elevator doors at the end of the hall chimed loudly.
Six men wearing sharp black suits stepped onto the floor.
They moved with terrifying precision, completely ignoring the screaming nurses and panicked doctors.
The leader of the group was an older man with silver hair and a deep scar across his cheek.
He walked directly up to the police officer and calmly disarmed him before the cop could even react.
The hospital security guards immediately dropped their radios and ran for their lives.
The silver-haired man stopped right next to me, staring through the glass at Daniel.
"You owe me a lot of money, Daniel," the man said, his voice echoing loudly through the corridor.
Daniel turned completely pale, his hands shaking violently as he recognized the mob boss.
"Mr. Vance," Daniel stammered through the intercom. "I am getting your money right now, I promise!"
Vance did not even acknowledge Daniel's pathetic begging.
Instead, the ruthless syndicate boss turned slowly to look at me.

"You look exactly like your father, Rachel," he murmured softly.
"And your father saved my life twenty years ago."
