Chapter 4 - The Wiped Drive

The cold metal bench in the holding cell offered absolutely no comfort.
I sat in the dark police station, weeping for my little girl who was waking up from surgery without her mother.
Officer Bennett walked up to the steel bars, holding a digital tablet.
"I am begging you, just look at the smart home cloud account again," I pleaded desperately.
"The video clearly shows Patricia feeding her those awful magnets."
The officer sighed heavily and unlocked the tablet screen.
"We tried to download the footage for the prosecutor, Rachel," he said softly.
He turned the screen around so I could see the security application.
The entire cloud storage drive had been completely wiped clean.
"There is no video," he explained.
"Your husband stated that you deleted the entire archive right before we arrested you."
Daniel had used his master access to erase the only proof of Patricia's crime.
I was being perfectly framed for a horrific crime I did not commit.
I buried my face in my hands, feeling completely defeated by my husband's twisted intelligence.
Suddenly, the heavy security door of the precinct buzzed loudly.
A tall man wearing a custom Italian suit walked into the holding area carrying a sleek leather briefcase.
He flashed a golden badge to the officers, forcing them to step back immediately.
"My name is Arthur Sterling, and I am this woman's attorney," the man announced confidently.
I stared at him in complete confusion.
"I did not hire a lawyer," I whispered through the bars.
Arthur offered me a reassuring, knowing smile.
"I know you didn't, Mrs. Miller," he replied calmly.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a silver USB flash drive.
"But the hidden, secondary camera your late father installed in that dining room caught absolutely everything."
