Chapter 5 - The Stolen Voice

An officer approached me slowly with his weapon lowered but his hand firmly on the grip.

He gently but firmly took my crying baby from my arms and handed him over to a waiting paramedic.

I collapsed to the floor in pure agony as I watched my son being carried away.

Two officers grabbed my arms, pulling them behind my back and clicking cold metal handcuffs around my wrists.

I screamed that they had it all wrong, begging them to find the baby monitor in the bedroom.

I told them about the recorded audio, the premeditated plan, and how Brandon had plotted to break me.

One of the officers gestured to his partner to check the primary bedroom.

Patricia stood near the kitchen island, dabbing fake tears from her eyes with a tissue.

She offered a sad, sympathetic look to the police, acting like a heartbroken mother-in-law.

The second officer returned from the bedroom a moment later, holding the shattered plastic remains of the baby monitor.

He announced that the device was completely smashed to pieces.

Brandon let out a convincing sigh of relief, telling the cops that I had destroyed it in my fit of rage.

I thrashed against the handcuffs, shouting that they needed to check the SD memory card inside the broken plastic.

The officer examined the cracked housing under his flashlight.

He shook his head and stated that the memory card slot was completely empty.

Brandon had removed the evidence before he had even started breaking down the bathroom door.
