Chapter 5 - The Hospital Escape
The estate's original security chief rushed into the vault wearing a gas mask.
He helped Maya and me out of the toxic room while his men secured an unconscious Charles.
"We need to get to the police station right now," I told the chief as we reached the fresh air of the hallway.
We sprinted to my private car and sped through the city streets toward the precinct.
When we arrived, the station was in complete chaos.
Paramedics were rushing a man on a stretcher out through the double doors.
I caught a glimpse of Adrian's face beneath an oxygen mask.
His skin was entirely pale, and his body was convulsing violently.
"They are taking him to Mercy Hospital, he ingested a lethal toxin," an officer shouted to a colleague.
I grabbed Maya's hand, and we immediately followed the ambulance to the hospital.
We slipped through the emergency room doors, trying to remain unnoticed by the gathering press.
I needed Adrian to survive long enough to confess Charles's entire scheme to the authorities.
We found his room on the intensive care floor, guarded by a single police officer.
Before I could approach the door, a nurse bumped into me in the crowded hallway.
She looked up, and I instantly recognized her face.
It was Bianca, disguised in blue medical scrubs and a surgical mask.
She shoved a sharp syringe directly into my arm before I could scream.
