Chapter 8 - The Betrayal
Marcus froze perfectly still as the red laser rested over his heart.
A tall figure stepped out from the shadows of the tree line.
It was Marcus's own head of security, David.
David held a high-powered rifle aimed directly at Marcus.
Marcus stared at his most trusted employee in complete disbelief.
David confessed that Isabella had offered him ten million dollars to finish the job.
He demanded that Marcus hand over the blue vial immediately.
Marcus slowly raised his hands, tightly gripping the fragile glass tube.
He knew that if he handed it over, both Khloe and the baby would die.
Marcus looked David straight in the eyes and made a bold gamble.
He suddenly crushed the blue vial in his bare hand, shattering the glass.
The glowing blue liquid spilled out and quickly absorbed into the muddy ground.
David screamed in frustration and lowered his rifle in pure shock.
Marcus used the momentary distraction to draw a hidden pistol from his ankle holster.
He fired two rapid shots, hitting David in the shoulder and disarming him.
David fell to his knees, groaning in pain.
Marcus rushed over and pressed his gun against David's forehead.
He demanded to know where the real antidote was.
David laughed weakly, spitting blood onto the grass.
He revealed that the blue vial was a fake designed to waste Marcus's time.
