Chapter 3 - The Escape

The match hit the floor and ignited a massive wall of flames in an instant.

Marcus threw his body over mine to shield me from the sudden blast of heat.

The fire roared like a wild animal, consuming the curtains and the bedsheets.

My vision started to blur as the lack of oxygen took its toll on my brain.

Marcus refused to give up.

He lifted me into his arms and carried me toward the bathroom.

He kicked the wooden door open and gently set me in the empty porcelain bathtub.

He quickly turned on the cold shower to soak my clothes and protect me from the flames.

The bathroom door began to blister and peel from the intense heat in the main suite.

Marcus grabbed wet towels and shoved them under the crack of the door to block the smoke.

My breathing grew shallow, and my hands instinctively clutched my stomach.

I looked up at Marcus with tears streaming down my dirty face.

He kissed my forehead and promised me that we were going to survive this.

Suddenly, a massive crash shook the entire hospital wing.

The bathroom door splintered into pieces as a heavy steel axe swung through the wood.

A firefighter in full turnout gear kicked the remaining debris away and rushed in.

He wrapped me in a fireproof blanket and strapped an oxygen mask over my face.

Another rescue worker helped Marcus out of the burning room.

We were rushed down the emergency stairwell to a waiting ambulance.

I finally felt safe as the paramedics loaded me into the back of the vehicle.

The doors closed, and the ambulance sped away from the burning hospital.

I looked over at the driver, expecting to see a paramedic.

The driver slowly turned around, pulling off her medical cap to reveal long blonde hair.

It was Isabella.
