Chapter 6 - The Choice

Marcus slammed his fist into the wall, cracking the plaster.

He completely refused to accept the doctor's grim diagnosis.

He demanded they contact every specialist in the country to find another solution.

The doctor sadly shook his head, explaining that the toxin was spreading too fast.

Every minute we waited increased the chance of permanent organ failure for me.

I placed my trembling hands over my stomach, feeling a tiny kick from the baby.

Tears streamed down my face as I made the hardest decision of my life.

I told Marcus that I was willing to risk my own life to give our baby a chance.

Marcus dropped to his knees beside my bed and buried his face in my hands.

He cried and begged me not to leave him alone in this world.

I promised him that I would fight with everything I had left.

The medical team quickly hooked me up to several dialysis machines to clean my blood.

Hours passed in absolute agony as the machines hummed and beeped.

Suddenly, Marcus's phone buzzed with an incoming video call.

The caller ID showed an unknown restricted number.

Marcus answered it, and Isabella's bruised and bloody face appeared on the screen.

She smiled weakly from what looked like the inside of a private jet.

She held up a small blue vial filled with a glowing liquid.

May you like

She told Marcus it was the only existing antidote for the poison in my veins.

And she was willing to trade it for his entire corporate empire.
