Chapter 8 - The Psych Ward

I screamed and fought against the officer's grip.
He pinned my arms behind my back and slammed me against the hood of the cruiser.
I watched in horror as he handed my newborn daughter directly to Andrew.
Andrew looked down at the baby with a sickening smile.
He thanked the officer for handling his delusional wife.
The blonde woman stepped out of the SUV and wrapped her arm around Andrew.
They looked like a perfect, concerned family.
I begged the second officer to check the hospital records.
I told him I had just given birth upstairs and that they were trying to kill me.
The second officer pulled out a syringe from his uniform pocket.
He told me to relax and that the sedative would help me sleep.
I realized instantly that these were not real cops.
They were hired thugs wearing stolen uniforms.
The needle pierced my neck before I could scream again.
The world began to blur and spin violently.
I felt myself being shoved into the back of the fake police cruiser.
The engine roared to life.
I fought to keep my eyes open as the car sped out of the garage.
I knew if I fell asleep, I would never wake up.
I used my numb fingers to feel for the burner phone in my pocket.
It was still there.
I blindly pressed the call button to redial my father's number.
The phone connected just as my vision went completely dark.
I woke up on a cold concrete floor hours later.
My wrists and ankles were bound with heavy zip ties.
I was in a damp, windowless basement.
A single bulb flickered overhead.
I heard the sound of footsteps coming down a wooden staircase.
I braced myself to face Andrew or his fake cops.
The door opened, and a man stepped into the light.
It was my father.
May you like
He held a gun in one hand and my crying baby in the other.
I told Andrew you were too smart to die in a hospital, my father said coldly.
