Chapter 7 - The Escape Plan

I watched my husband kiss the woman who had warned me about him.

The betrayal hit me harder than the physical pain of childbirth.

She had not saved me out of kindness.

She had hidden me in this specific hospital so Andrew could use his blackmailed doctor to kill me quietly.

They were working together the entire time.

I clutched my baby tightly against my chest.

I needed help from someone completely outside of my life.

I pulled out the burner phone I had taken from the blonde woman's purse.

I scrolled past my father's number and dialed emergency services.

The police operator answered immediately.

I told her my husband was trying to murder me in the hospital parking garage.

I gave her the exact location and license plate of the SUV.

The operator told me police were already en route.

I felt a tiny spark of hope.

All I had to do was stay hidden until the sirens arrived.

I sank down behind the concrete pillar and waited in the shadows.

Five minutes later, two police cruisers sped down the ramp into the garage.

The flashing red and blue lights illuminated the dark concrete walls.

Andrew and the blonde woman froze in their seats.

Two officers approached the SUV with their hands resting on their holsters.

I let out a breath I did not realize I was holding.

I stepped out from behind the pillar and waved to get the officers' attention.

One of the officers turned toward me.

He smiled.

He walked directly past Andrew's car and approached me.

I started to explain everything that had happened.

The officer raised his hand to silence me.

He grabbed my arm roughly and snatched my baby from my chest.

He looked over his shoulder at Andrew and nodded.

You were right, Mr. Monroe, the officer called out.

Your wife is having a severe psychotic break and just tried to steal a baby from the maternity ward.
