Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The deafening sound of a gunshot echoed through the concrete warehouse room.
Michelle screamed in sheer terror, shielding the babies with her own body.
I squeezed my eyes shut, terrified that I was about to see Harrison bleeding on the floor.
But when I opened my eyes, Harrison was completely unharmed.
David was clutching his wrist in agony, the heavy handgun clattering uselessly to the concrete floor.
One of David's own security guards had shot the weapon right out of his hand.
The guard lowered his weapon and reached up to pull off his dark tactical mask.
It was Detective Miller, an undercover federal agent I recognized from a previous financial audit.
"Federal Bureau of Investigation, nobody move a single muscle," the detective shouted with commanding authority.
The second security guard immediately dropped his weapon and raised his hands in absolute surrender.
Harrison pulled me behind a stack of metal crates to keep me entirely out of the line of fire.
"You planned this with the FBI?" I whispered to Harrison in utter shock.
"When you were talking to Michelle on the phone, I sent a distress signal to my federal contacts," Harrison explained with a wink.
David stumbled backward, clutching his bleeding hand as more federal agents swarmed into the massive room.
"You cannot arrest me, I am the rightful heir to the Lawson empire," David screamed hysterically.
"You are under arrest for corporate espionage, kidnapping, and extortion," Detective Miller stated calmly.
Two agents roughly slammed David against the concrete wall, locking heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
Christopher watched the entire scene unfold with wide, terrified eyes.
He tried to slowly crawl toward the heavy metal door while the agents were distracted by David.
"Not so fast, Christopher," I said loudly, stepping out from behind the crates.
The federal agents immediately turned their attention to my pathetic ex-husband.
"Christopher Lawson, you are also under arrest for massive wire fraud and forging federal loan documents," the detective announced.
Christopher began to hyperventilate, his arrogant facade completely shattered into a million pieces.
"Michelle made me do it, it was entirely her idea," Christopher cowardly lied, pointing a shaking finger at the mother of his children.
Michelle stood up, her face completely hardened with a sudden, fierce resolve.
She walked over to Christopher, holding the babies tightly, and looked down at him with absolute disgust.
"I am turning state's evidence against you, Christopher, and I am giving them the original forged document," Michelle declared firmly.
She handed a crumpled piece of paper directly to the federal detective.
"It is entirely over," I told Christopher as the agents dragged him away in handcuffs.
Suddenly, Harrison's phone began to ring loudly over the chaotic noise of the arrests.
He answered it, his expression shifting from victorious to deeply confused in a matter of seconds.

"Victoria," Harrison whispered, hanging up the phone and turning to look at me.
"The FBI just raided the Tucson fertility clinic, and they found a secure medical file with your name on it."
