Chapter 6 - The Hostage

My vision slowly adjusted to the harsh glare of the flashlight.
David emerged from the shadows, holding a sleek black handgun pointed directly at Harrison's chest.
Two massive security guards stepped out from behind the rusted gas pumps, flanking us entirely.
"You are incredibly smart, Victoria, but you are entirely too predictable," David sneered.
"You intercepted Michelle's phone call," I realized with a sickening drop in my stomach.
"I control every single piece of technology in that warehouse," David bragged arrogantly.
He motioned with the gun for us to get into the back of a black SUV idling nearby.
Harrison gently squeezed my hand, offering silent reassurance before we climbed into the vehicle.
We were driven in total silence back to the massive, imposing Vextor Dynamics warehouse.
The guards shoved us roughly through the heavy metal doors and into a dimly lit storage room.
Christopher was sitting on the concrete floor, looking bruised, broken, and completely pathetic.
Michelle was huddled in the corner, clutching the crying twins to her chest.
David locked the heavy steel door behind us, stepping into the room with absolute authority.
"Now that we are all finally together, let us conclude this family business," David announced cheerfully.
He threw a thick stack of legal contracts onto a metal shipping crate in the center of the room.
"Christopher is going to sign his remaining shares over to me, and Victoria is going to sign a confession for the loan fraud."
"I will never confess to a crime I did not commit," I stated, glaring at him with pure hatred.
"If you refuse, my guards will simply ensure that none of you ever leave this warehouse alive," David threatened.
Christopher looked up at me, tears streaming down his bruised face.
"I am so sorry, Victoria, I ruined absolutely everything because of my stupid pride," he sobbed.
I felt absolutely zero pity for the man who had gleefully tried to destroy my life.
"Your apologies mean nothing to me now, Christopher," I replied coldly.
Harrison slowly stepped forward, casually slipping his hands into his suit pockets.
"You might want to check your offshore bank accounts before anyone signs anything, David," Harrison said smoothly.
David frowned, looking suspiciously at the confident forensic accountant.
"What are you talking about?" David demanded, his grip tightening on the heavy gun.
Harrison smiled, a dangerous, brilliant flash of teeth in the dim light.
"While you were busy tracking Michelle's phone, I was busy hacking the holding company you used to buy the fertility clinic."
David's eyes widened in sudden, absolute panic.

"I transferred every single penny of your stolen trust fund money to a secure federal treasury account exactly ten minutes ago," Harrison revealed.
David raised the gun, aiming it directly at Harrison's head with a scream of pure rage.
