Chapter 4 - The Brother's Return

I stood up slowly, my heart hammering violently against my ribs.

"There must be some kind of mistake," I told the officers, keeping my voice as calm as possible.

Harrison instantly stepped between me and the police, shifting into his aggressive lawyer persona.

"I am her legal counsel, and I demand to see the exact details of this warrant right now," Harrison stated firmly.

The officer handed Harrison the document with a stern expression.

"She is being charged with forging a ten-million-dollar corporate loan against Vextor Dynamics," the officer explained.

I felt all the blood drain rapidly from my face.

"I never signed any loan documents for that company," I insisted desperately.

Harrison read the warrant quickly, his jaw clenching in deep frustration.

"The police have a notarized document with your exact signature, Victoria," Harrison whispered to me.

He turned back to the officers and negotiated fiercely for exactly ten minutes.

He managed to convince them to let me surrender voluntarily at the station the next morning with my legal representation.

Once the officers finally left, I collapsed into my desk chair, putting my head in my trembling hands.

"David framed me to eliminate my claim to the remaining corporate shares," I realized out loud.

"He wants to completely destroy you so Christopher has absolutely no financial allies left," Harrison agreed.

I looked at Harrison, feeling a sudden wave of genuine gratitude for his steady presence.

"How do we prove my signature was forged?" I asked him.

"We find the notary who officially stamped that fraudulent loan document," Harrison replied, already pulling up public records on his phone.

We spent the next hour cross-referencing state registries and corporate filings.

"I found the notary's registration number," Harrison announced with a triumphant grin.

He matched the ID number to a name, and his triumphant smile instantly vanished.

"Victoria, you are not going to believe who legally verified your forged signature."

He turned the phone screen toward me so I could read the name clearly.

The notary public was Michelle.

My former best friend had not just stolen my husband.

She had actively participated in a massive financial crime to send me to federal prison.

My phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming call from a restricted number.

I answered it on speakerphone, motioning for Harrison to stay completely silent.

"Hello, Victoria," Michelle's terrified, shaking voice echoed through the speaker.

"You need to help me, because David just locked Christopher in the basement, and I think he is going to kill us both."
