Chapter 8 - The Betrayal

Gavin froze completely, his smug smile vanishing as the federal agents surrounded him.
A tall, stern FBI director walked into the room, holding a glowing digital tablet in his hand.
Elias Thorne followed closely behind the director, looking incredibly furious and powerful.
Elias had bypassed the corrupt local police entirely and called in his highest federal contacts in Washington.
The FBI director ordered his men to arrest Gavin Pierce for domestic terrorism and attempted murder.
Gavin screamed in outrage, claiming that I was the one who planted the bomb.
The director coldly pressed a button on his tablet, playing an audio recording out loud for everyone to hear.
It was the undeniable voice of Charlotte Gable, speaking clearly over a burner phone.
She was explicitly outlining the instructions for planting the explosives in the gala’s west wing.
But she wasn't talking to me.
She was talking to a known international mercenary, and she explicitly stated that Gavin had ordered the strike.
Gavin’s face turned ghostly pale as he realized how brilliantly he had been betrayed.
Charlotte had not just framed me; she had intentionally left a digital trail framing Gavin as the mastermind.
The federal agents forcefully dragged Gavin out of the interrogation room, ignoring his desperate, pathetic screams for mercy.
Elias quickly used a small key to unlock the heavy handcuffs from my bruised wrists.
He told me that we had completely won, and Gavin was going to prison for the rest of his life.
I rubbed my sore wrists, but a terrible, nagging feeling settled deep in the pit of my stomach.
I asked Elias where Charlotte was right now, knowing she would not just walk away empty-handed.
Elias checked his secure phone and frowned deeply.
He revealed that Charlotte’s passport had just been flagged at the private international airport on the edge of the city.
She was attempting to flee the country with the briefcase containing the forty million dollars in untraceable crypto drives.
We sprinted out of the police precinct and jumped back into Elias’s waiting armored SUV.
Our driver sped recklessly through the flooded city streets, racing against the clock to reach the tarmac.

When we finally crashed through the airport security gates, we saw Charlotte's private jet already moving down the runway.
But as the jet’s engines roared to full power, a massive, deafening explosion ripped the left wing completely off the aircraft.
