Chapter 6 - The Setup

The deafening roar of the explosion completely shattered my eardrums.
Thick black smoke rapidly filled the grand lobby, choking the air out of my burning lungs.
Elias’s security team quickly grabbed me, shielding my body with their Kevlar vests as debris fell from the ceiling.
Screams echoed from the ballroom above as wealthy guests scrambled desperately for the emergency exits.
We rushed out into the pouring rain, coughing violently as the cold air hit our faces.
I looked up and saw the entire west wing of the gala building engulfed in bright orange flames.
Elias yelled into his radio, coordinating a rapid evacuation while his medics tended to the wounded.
I realized with absolute horror that the explosion was not an accident.
Charlotte had planted the bomb to create a massive distraction while she escaped with the hard drives.
I quickly checked my phone and saw a breaking news alert flashing across the screen.
The local news was already reporting on the explosion, but the headline made my blood run entirely cold.
The article claimed that police had found a manifesto linking the bombing to a disgruntled, unstable wife.
They were officially naming Sabrina Miller as the prime suspect in a domestic terrorism plot.
Charlotte had not just stolen the forty million dollars and destroyed the building.
She had expertly framed me for the entire catastrophic event.
Elias pulled me toward the waiting armored SUV, ordering me to get inside before the police arrived.
He promised me that his legal team would fight this, but we had to flee the city immediately.
I refused to move, shaking my head as the piercing wail of police sirens echoed in the distance.
I knew that if I ran now, I would look completely guilty, and Gavin would legally take everything.
I looked Elias directly in the eyes and told him I was not going to hide like a coward.
I demanded that he take me directly to the police precinct to turn myself in.
May you like
Elias argued, but he saw the unbreakable determination burning fiercely in my eyes.
Before we could even step into the vehicle, a dozen police cruisers swarmed the street, completely surrounding us.
