Chapter 7 - The Interrogation Room

Fierce red and blue lights illuminated the stormy night as heavily armed officers aimed their weapons at us.

I slowly raised my hands into the air, stepping away from the armored SUV without any resistance.

An aggressive officer shoved me roughly against the hood of the car and locked heavy steel handcuffs around my wrists.

Elias shouted that I was innocent, demanding to speak to the chief of police immediately.

The officers completely ignored him, tossing me into the back of a cold, smelling patrol cruiser.

I sat in absolute silence during the long drive to the downtown police precinct.

They dragged me into a cramped, windowless interrogation room and chained my wrists to the metal table.

I waited alone for three agonizing hours, staring at the flickering fluorescent lightbulb above my head.

Finally, the heavy metal door creaked open, and a tall man in a tailored suit walked in.

It was not a police detective.

It was Gavin.

He looked completely unharmed, sporting a smug, victorious smile on his bruised face.

I demanded to know how he had escaped Elias’s security team in the wine cellar.

Gavin laughed, explaining that the explosion had caused the guards to abandon their posts in a panic.

He pulled out a thick folder and tossed it onto the metal table in front of me.

Inside was a complete confession to the bombing, already typed out and waiting for my signature.

He told me that he had paid off the police chief with two million dollars from his hidden reserves.

If I signed the confession and legally relinquished all claims to SwiftFreight, he would ensure I only got ten years in prison instead of a life sentence.

I stared at the paperwork, refusing to pick up the cheap plastic pen he offered me.

I told him I would rather die in a cage than give him a single dime of the money he stole.

Gavin slammed his fists violently onto the table, leaning in so close I could smell the expensive scotch on his breath.

He whispered that if I didn't sign, he would have my sister killed before the sun came up.

May you like

Just as he raised his hand to strike me, the interrogation room door was violently kicked wide open.

A team of federal FBI agents stormed into the room, aiming their assault rifles directly at Gavin’s chest.
