Chapter 7 - The Facility

The red light on the steel collar blinked faster with every passing second.
My mother-in-law smiled down at me from the balcony with pure unadulterated malice.
She told me that the explosive would detonate instantly if I took another step backward.
I fell hopelessly to my knees on the cold damp grass.
I begged her to turn it off and take my life instead.
She laughed softly and said my life was completely worthless to their vital research.
The armed guards moved in quickly and dragged me violently into the mansion.
They ripped Lily and Leo from my desperate arms.
I fought like a wild animal but there were simply too many of them.
They threw me onto the cold tile floor of a massive underground laboratory.
The room was filled with humming machines and giant glass vats of bubbling chemicals.
My husband walked into the room wearing a pristine white protective suit.
The broken wrist I gave him earlier was locked securely inside a heavy metal brace.
He looked at me with cold eyes devoid of any human empathy.
He explained that their elite family bloodline carried a rare degenerative genetic disease.
They desperately needed perfect biological matches to synthesize a permanent cure.
I was nothing more than a carefully selected breeding vessel for their experiments.
The horrific chemical burns on Lily were just the unfortunate side effects of the extraction process.
He ordered the guards to strap me tightly to a heavy steel operating table.
He brought over a massive medical syringe filled with a glowing green liquid.
He told me this injection would permanently paralyze my vocal cords so I could never scream again.
I thrashed violently against the thick leather restraints.
He leaned in terrifyingly close to my face and prepared to inject the long needle.

Suddenly the heavy steel doors of the laboratory exploded inward with a deafening roar.
The honest detective from the hospital stepped through the thick smoke holding a heavy shotgun.
