Chapter 2 - The Assassin in White

The dark silhouette fully entered the room, freezing when she saw two loaded weapons pointed at her chest.
It was a woman dressed in standard nursing scrubs, holding a stainless steel medical tray.
"Police, drop the tray and put your hands in the air!" Detective Miller shouted.
The woman dropped the tray, sending sterile bandages and a large, unmarked syringe clattering across the linoleum floor.
She slowly raised her hands, her eyes darting nervously toward the emergency exit sign in the hallway.
"I was just sent here to administer the patient's pain medication," she stammered, her voice shaking.
I leaned forward, squinting past the bright fluorescent lights to get a better look at her face.
She was wearing a surgical mask, but her expensive designer shoes completely gave her away.
Real nurses working fourteen hour shifts did not wear limited edition red-soled heels.
"She is not a nurse," I warned the detectives loudly.
"I recognize those shoes from my mother's country club."
The fake nurse realized her cover was blown and immediately lunged backward into the hallway.
Detective Vance holstered his weapon and sprinted after her, tackling her roughly against a medication cart.
Miller quickly secured the dropped syringe using an evidence bag he pulled from his coat pocket.
He held the clear liquid up to the light, his jaw tightening in anger.
"This is pure potassium chloride," Miller stated grimly.
"It stops the heart instantly and is virtually untraceable during a standard autopsy."
Sarah grabbed my hand, her grip terrifyingly tight.
"Your parents sent a professional cleaner to finish what they started," she whispered.
Vance dragged the handcuffed woman back into the room and forced her into a chair.
He aggressively searched her pockets and pulled out a sleek, untraceable burner phone.
"Who hired you to kill this girl?" Vance demanded, looming over the suspect.
The woman kept her mouth firmly shut, offering only a cold, defiant glare.
Suddenly, the burner phone in Vance's hand began vibrating violently.
The screen illuminated the dark room with an incoming text message.
Vance turned the screen around so we could all read the chilling words.
The message read, "Is the problem solved yet?"
Right below the text, the sender's contact name was saved simply as Patricia.
My mother was actively waiting for confirmation of my death.
I stared at the glowing screen, feeling a fresh wave of nausea wash over me.
Patricia was a woman who hosted charity galas and smiled perfectly for high society magazines.
Beneath that glamorous facade, she was a cold-blooded monster willing to execute her own daughter for a payout.
I realized in that exact moment that I could never go back to being the naive girl I was yesterday.

This was no longer a family dispute over stolen trust funds.
This was a brutal war for my survival.
