Chapter 8 - The Viper's Nest

I spent the entire night in a dark motel room with Sergeant Miller, finalizing our strategy for the morning.

Miller had successfully contacted four of my most loyal squad mates who were currently stationed in the city.

They were absolutely furious to learn about the betrayal and eagerly agreed to help me execute my terrifying revenge.

At exactly noon the next day, a massive fleet of black limousines pulled up to the historic downtown cathedral.

I stood on the roof of an adjacent building, watching through a pair of binoculars as hundreds of guests poured through the massive wooden doors.

Dominic stepped out of the lead vehicle wearing a tailored black suit, wiping fake tears from his eyes for the flashing cameras.

Chloe walked closely beside him, playing the role of the supportive family friend while secretly plotting his imminent murder.

The corrupt military police officers formed a tight perimeter around the cathedral, checking invitations and turning away unwanted press.

I lowered my binoculars and signaled Miller, who was parked in an armored SWAT vehicle a block away.

I descended the fire escape and entered the ancient catacombs that ran directly beneath the cathedral's foundation.

I navigated the dark, damp tunnels using an architectural blueprint I had memorized hours earlier.

I could hear the deep, somber tones of the church organ vibrating through the stone ceiling above me.

I climbed a spiral stone staircase that led directly behind the massive altar at the front of the sanctuary.

I paused behind the heavy velvet curtains, listening to Dominic’s voice echo through the massive room as he began my eulogy.

He spoke about my bravery, my sacrifice, and the deep, unbreakable love we supposedly shared.

I pulled the rusted metal padlock from my pocket and prepared to give him the surprise of his miserable life.
