Chapter 9 - The Legal Execution

I pulled Lily safely over the concrete ledge, clutching her tightly against my violently trembling chest.
She was completely unconscious, but I could still feel the faint, steady rhythm of her tiny heartbeat.
Victoria burst onto the roof moments later, followed swiftly by a team of heavily armed tactical medics.
They rushed forward, immediately stabilizing Lily and connecting her to a portable oxygen supply.
Diane was lying groaning on the hard gravel, clutching her bruised ribs after the brutal fall from the ladder.
Victoria walked slowly over to my former wife, her high heels clicking menacingly against the roof surface.
"You really thought you could outsmart me by paying off a cheap pilot?" Victoria asked, looking down at Diane with absolute disgust.
Victoria had obviously intercepted Diane’s escape plan and bribed the pilot to betray her at the last possible second.
Two large mercenaries hauled Diane roughly to her feet, slapping heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
"You have absolutely no legal proof of anything!" Diane screamed frantically, spitting blood onto the gravel.
Victoria smiled, a terrifyingly sharp expression that promised decades of legal torture.
"I actually have the sworn confession of your partner, Marcus, who sold you out for a plea deal exactly three minutes ago," Victoria stated calmly.
Diane’s eyes widened in sheer, unfiltered horror as she realized she was completely and utterly trapped.
They dragged Diane away, reading her a long list of federal charges that guaranteed she would never see daylight again.
I rode in the back of the heavily armored medical transport vehicle, refusing to let go of Lily’s small, fragile hand.
We arrived safely at the best private pediatric oncology center in the entire state.
The doctors worked tirelessly through the night, reversing the severe dehydration and the damage caused by the tampered medication.
By the time the morning sun began to rise, Lily was finally stabilized and resting peacefully in a secure, guarded room.
Victoria walked into the hospital room carrying a cup of hot coffee and a thick manila folder.
"The stolen GoFundMe money has been completely recovered and placed into a secure trust," Victoria informed me softly.
She handed me the folder, which contained the official documents transferring Diane’s massive corporate pension directly into my name as restitution.
I had completely won the war against the monsters who had tried to destroy my family.
I looked at my mother, feeling a profound sense of gratitude that I never thought I would experience.
"Thank you, Mom," I whispered sincerely, wiping a stray tear from my exhausted face.

Victoria nodded respectfully, placing a surprisingly gentle hand on my shoulder.
"You are completely safe now, Sarah, no one will ever hurt you or my granddaughter again," Victoria promised.
