Chapter 7 - The Hospice Raid

Victoria's driver sped recklessly through the dark city streets, ignoring every single traffic law in existence.
I stared at the glowing red dot on the GPS tablet, tracking the stolen ambulance carrying my fragile daughter.
Victoria was furiously typing on multiple cell phones, coordinating a massive response with her private security firm.
"The hospice facility is located on the desolate edge of the county lines," Victoria informed me without looking up.
"It is a completely unregulated shadow clinic owned by a subsidiary of Diane's corporate employer."
Everything was finally making horrific, perfect sense to me.
Diane had targeted me specifically because my daughter's illness provided the perfect cover for a highly lucrative insurance scam.
We arrived at the remote, heavily gated facility just as the private ambulance was backing into the hidden loading dock.
Four heavily armed private security contractors stepped out of a trailing van to guard the perimeter.
"We cannot just walk in there, they have assault rifles," I panicked, gripping the door handle.
Victoria let out a soft, condescending laugh that reminded me exactly why we had never gotten along.
"I did not become the most feared attorney in this state by playing nicely," Victoria stated calmly.
She pressed a small button on her communication earpiece.
Suddenly, the night sky was completely illuminated by the blinding spotlights of three hovering security helicopters.
Dozens of Victoria's own heavily armed tactical mercenaries descended rapidly on zip lines.
They completely overwhelmed Diane's amateur guards in a matter of seconds, disarming them without firing a single shot.
Victoria stepped elegantly out of the town car, adjusting her pearls before marching directly toward the facility doors.
I followed closely behind her, my heart hammering with sheer adrenaline and desperate hope.
We kicked the double doors open and entered the sterile, terrifyingly quiet medical hallway.
Marcus was standing furiously at the reception desk, screaming at a terrified administrative nurse.
When he turned and saw me standing there, his arrogant face instantly drained of all color.
I did not hesitate for a fraction of a second.
I sprinted across the lobby and punched Marcus squarely in the jaw with every ounce of strength I possessed.
He collapsed heavily onto the polished tile floor, spitting a stream of dark blood from his mouth.
"Where is my daughter?" I roared, grabbing him aggressively by his designer shirt collar.
Marcus simply laughed a bloody, pathetic laugh.

"You are entirely too late, Sarah," he sneered maliciously.
"Diane already took her up to the roof to wait for the extraction helicopter."
