Chapter 18 - The Final Confrontation

Jax kicked his door open and instantly raised his tactical rifle, aiming directly at David's chest.

"Drop the briefcase and put your hands behind your head, or I will blow you out of the sky!" Jax roared over the screaming jet engines.

David slowly lowered the silver briefcase to the metal stairs, his arrogant smirk entirely wiped from his scarred face.

He raised his hands in a gesture of fake surrender, but his cold eyes darted frantically around the tarmac.

I stepped out of the vehicle, gripping the heavy black pistol Jax had given me, aiming it directly at the monster who tried to burn my daughter alive.

"It is entirely over, David," I yelled, my voice completely steady and void of any fear.

"You are going to spend the rest of your miserable life rotting in a concrete box right next to your brother."

David let out a dark, raspy laugh that sent an icy shiver violently down my spine.

"You really think Mark is still sitting in that concrete box, Elena?" David asked mockingly.

The heavy hydraulic door of the private jet suddenly swung wider, revealing a second figure stepping out from the luxurious cabin.

My heart stopped completely, the blood freezing instantly in my veins as I stared at the impossible nightmare standing before me.

Mark was wearing a pristine tailored suit, holding a massive, suppressed automatic weapon aimed directly at Jax.

He had used the massive explosion across the city as a perfect distraction to orchestrate a highly funded federal prison break.

"I told you once before, Elena, you make terrible mistakes when you try to play the hero," Mark sneered viciously.

Without a single second of hesitation, Mark pulled the trigger, firing a three-round burst directly into Jax's armored chest plate.

Jax groaned heavily and collapsed onto the wet tarmac, his rifle skittering completely out of reach.

I screamed and raised my pistol to shoot Mark, but David immediately pulled a hidden revolver from his ankle holster.

Before David could aim his weapon at me, Mark suddenly turned his suppressed automatic rifle and fired directly into his own brother's chest.

David fell backward down the metal stairs, his lifeless body crashing heavily onto the dark pavement.

"I never actually planned on splitting the insurance money with him," Mark stated coldly, stepping carelessly over his brother's bleeding corpse.

He slowly walked down the metal stairs, aiming his terrifying weapon directly at my forehead.
