Chapter 17 - The Explosion

Jax pressed the glowing red button on the detonator, instantly triggering a massive, concussive blast.

The explosion ripped the heavy steel locking mechanism completely off the door, blowing the heavy metal barrier wide open.

"Move, move, move!" Jax commanded, shoving me and Chloe violently out into the freezing, pouring rain.

We sprinted across the flooded loading dock, our lungs burning furiously as we gasped for fresh air.

Just as we cleared the rusted chain-link fence, the entire slaughterhouse behind us erupted into a catastrophic fireball.

The sheer force of the structural explosion knocked us all completely off our feet, sending us crashing into the muddy gravel.

A massive shockwave shattered every remaining window in the industrial park, raining sharp glass down like deadly confetti.

I crawled desperately over to Chloe, covering her small body with my own to protect her from the falling debris.

We lay in the freezing mud for what felt like an eternity, listening to the roaring flames consume the massive building.

David's twisted, perfect plan to permanently erase us had just failed entirely.

Jax slowly stood up, wiping a streak of thick, dark blood from his forehead as he scanned the chaotic perimeter.

"He thinks we are dead," Jax stated, a terrifying, predatory smile creeping across his scarred face.

"Which means he is going to make his final mistake and go directly to his extraction point."

Jax pulled out his encrypted tracker, revealing that he had secretly slipped a micro-GPS beacon into David's bulletproof vest before kicking the pallet over the fire.

David had shed the heavy vest, but he had transferred his backup weapon and the tracker directly into his getaway vehicle.

We scrambled into Jax's heavily armored SUV, the tires squealing violently as we tore out of the industrial park.

Jax drove like a complete madman, weaving dangerously through the slick, rain-soaked city streets.

We tracked the blinking red dot straight toward the private executive tarmac of the international airport.

David was trying to flee the country, completely confident that his horrific problems were buried in the ashes of the slaughterhouse.

Jax smashed the SUV violently through the flimsy security gate of the private airfield, completely ignoring the screaming guards.

We sped toward a sleek, idling private jet sitting at the far end of the dark runway.

Jax slammed on the heavy brakes, drifting the massive SUV sideways to completely block the airplane's nose gear.

David stood at the top of the aircraft stairs, holding a silver metal briefcase, staring at us in absolute, paralyzed shock.
