Chapter 8 - The Mother's Madness

The brutal impact sent the heavy ambulance careening wildly across the wet highway lanes.

I fought the steering wheel with all my strength, barely managing to keep the vehicle from flipping over.

My mother rammed the armored truck into us again, showering the dark road with sparks and shattering glass.

She clearly did not care if she killed us all, as long as she could salvage the lucrative corporate contract.

Ben pulled a flare gun from the ambulance's emergency kit, his face pale and completely covered in sweat.

He rolled down his shattered window and fired the bright red flare directly at my mother's windshield.

The blinding light temporarily blinded her, causing the massive truck to swerve violently into the concrete median.

Her vehicle ground to a halt in a cloud of smoke, completely disabled by the devastating crash.

I did not stop to check on her, keeping my foot firmly planted on the accelerator as we sped away.

I knew we could not go to the local police, as my wealthy parents had the entire department in their pockets.

Ben weakly directed me to drive toward a highly secure, private airstrip located just outside the city limits.

He had secretly arranged a charter flight weeks ago, completely anticipating that this exact nightmare might happen.

We arrived at the desolate airfield just as the first light of dawn began to creep across the horizon.

A small, unmarked private jet was sitting on the tarmac with its engines already whining in preparation for takeoff.

A trusted pilot ran out to meet us, helping me carry a heavily bleeding Ben and a still-unconscious Rosie onto the plane.

I securely strapped the babies into their specialized medical seats, weeping with sheer relief as the cabin doors closed.

The jet accelerated smoothly down the runway, finally lifting us far away from the horrors of my corrupt family.

I sat beside Ben, holding his cold hand as a private flight nurse immediately began treating his gunshot wound.

I looked out the window, watching my entire past disappear beneath the beautiful, soft morning clouds.

The flight nurse suddenly tapped my shoulder, her face pale and her eyes wide with total confusion.

She pointed a trembling finger toward the back of the small aircraft.

Sitting quietly in the last row, holding a suppressed pistol, was my supposedly arrested fiance, David.
