Chapter 1 - The Secret Contract

I stared at the crumpled piece of paper in Ben's trembling hand.
The fluorescent lights of the hospital hallway buzzed loudly above our heads.
My eyes scanned the bold legal print at the very top of the document.
It was a highly classified contract signed by my own parents and a private medical research facility.
The terrifying words blurred together as a massive wave of pure nausea hit my stomach.
The document stated that our parents had sold permanent medical conservatorship of Rosie to a shadowy genetic corporation.
They had formally agreed to let this company seize her unborn twins for illegal testing the moment they were delivered.
Ben had secretly married my sister to legally emancipate her and become her designated next of kin.
It was the only legal loophole available to sever our parents' total control and save the babies from becoming corporate lab rats.
I finally understood that my entire wealthy family was built on a foundation of monstrous, unforgivable greed.
A terrified scream ripped through my throat before I could even attempt to stop myself.
Ben quickly covered my mouth with his warm hand and looked around the empty corridor frantically.
He whispered that we were entirely on our own and could not trust a single doctor in this facility.
My mind raced as I realized that Rosie had been perfectly aware of this nightmare the entire time.
She had bravely chosen to carry these babies, trusting Ben to protect her from our own mother and father.
Before I could fully process his urgent warning, the heavy double doors at the end of the corridor violently swung open.
My parents marched into the hallway wearing immaculate designer clothing.
They were flanking a tall, intimidating man dressed in a dark tactical suit.
My father looked directly at us with a cold, terrifying smile completely devoid of any paternal love.
He pointed a commanding finger at Ben and gave a chilling order to the imposing man behind him.
"Restrain the husband and prepare my other daughter for the extraction," my father announced smoothly.
Two more massive men stepped out from the shadows of the stairwell, completely blocking our only exit.
Ben pushed me forcefully behind his back and raised his fists in a defensive stance.

I realized with absolute horror that we were completely trapped in a hospital that my parents practically owned.
One of the men reached into his jacket and pulled out a heavy metal baton.
