Chapter 6 - The Father's Greed

My father aimed the heavy assault rifle directly at my head without a single ounce of hesitation.
He looked around the ruined laboratory and sighed in profound, terrifying annoyance.
He coldly stated that I had always been the most difficult and stubborn child in the family.
I kept my handgun raised, completely willing to die if it meant protecting my sister and her newborn babies.
I asked my father how he could possibly sell his own flesh and blood to a ruthless corporation.
He laughed dryly, explaining that family was simply a business asset to be leveraged for maximum financial gain.
He demanded that I drop my weapon and step away from the surgical table before he ordered his men to open fire.
Ben stepped protectively in front of the incubators, shielding his fragile children with his own body.
My father sneered at Ben, calling him a pathetic fool for thinking love could ever defeat unlimited wealth.
The corporate mercenaries raised their weapons, waiting for my father to give the final execution order.
I knew that a shootout in this room would guarantee the death of everyone I loved.
I slowly lowered my gun, pretending to finally submit to my father's overwhelming authority.
My father smiled triumphantly and lowered his rifle just a fraction of an inch.
He ordered one of the mercenaries to retrieve the twins from the incubators immediately.
The armed guard stepped forward, reaching out with heavy, tactical gloves toward the fragile newborns.
I caught Ben's eye, realizing we only had one desperate chance to turn the tables on these monsters.
I suddenly spun around and fired my weapon directly into the massive, pressurized oxygen tanks lining the back wall.
The pressurized tanks exploded with a deafening, concussive blast that shook the entire underground facility.
A massive cloud of thick, freezing white vapor instantly filled the room, blinding everyone in the laboratory.
The mercenaries began firing blindly into the fog, the chaotic gunshots echoing terribly off the concrete walls.
Ben grabbed my arm, and we blindly wheeled Rosie's surgical table toward the secondary emergency exit.
May you like
We crashed through the heavy doors, leaving my father and his men trapped in the freezing, chaotic fog.
But as we reached the safety of the stairwell, I noticed a dark, terrifying stain spreading rapidly across Ben's white shirt.
