Chapter 5 - The Fight for Survival

David's hands tightened viciously around my neck, completely cutting off my oxygen supply.
I clawed desperately at his face, but his grip was fueled by pure, desperate adrenaline.
Black spots began to dance furiously across the edges of my rapidly fading vision.
Suddenly, Ben tackled David from the side with the force of a speeding freight train.
The two men crashed heavily onto the flooded floor, instantly engaging in a brutal, muddy brawl.
I gasped for air, sliding down the wall and coughing up water as my lungs greedily took in the oxygen.
Ben delivered a devastating punch to David's jaw, temporarily stunning the treacherous corporate liaison.
I scrambled across the wet floor and retrieved the dropped handgun from beneath the metal supply cart.
I stood up on trembling legs and aimed the shaking weapon directly at my former fiance.
I screamed at David to stay on the ground, my voice echoing wildly over the blaring fire alarms.
David looked at the gun, let out a pathetic laugh, and slowly raised his hands in a mock surrender.
Ben quickly grabbed a heavy roll of medical tape from a nearby shelf and securely bound David's wrists and ankles.
We left the traitor tied up in the flooded hallway and turned our attention back to the laboratory doors.
The electronic lock had short-circuited completely from the massive water damage.
Ben kicked the heavy steel doors open, and we rushed into the sterile, brightly lit research room.
The corrupt doctor was cowering in the corner, holding a surgical scalpel with visibly shaking hands.
I did not hesitate for a single second as I aimed the handgun directly at his chest.
I ordered the doctor to drop the blade and step away from my sister and her babies immediately.
The cowardly physician threw the scalpel onto the floor and dropped to his knees in total submission.
I ran to the surgical table, tears streaming down my face as I gently touched Rosie's pale cheek.
She was still deeply sedated, but her chest was rising and falling in a steady, reassuring rhythm.
Ben sprinted over to the incubators, looking down at his tiny, beautiful newborn children with absolute awe.

The beautiful moment was violently shattered by the sound of heavy boots marching rapidly down the hallway.
My father walked into the laboratory, holding an assault rifle and flanked by four heavily armed corporate mercenaries.
