Chapter 3 - The Hospital Trap

I jumped up from the plastic chair and rushed over to the heavy examination room door.

I twisted the metal handle violently, but it was completely jammed from the outside.

I pounded my fists against the thick wood, demanding that the nurse open the door immediately.

The small glass observation window at the top of the door slid open.

The triage nurse stared at me with a look of pure, calculated disgust.

She calmly informed me that the hospital security protocol required her to lock the room when a severe case of child abuse was suspected.

I desperately tried to explain that we were the victims running from our abusive family.

The nurse shook her head, pulled a digital tablet from her pocket, and pressed it against the glass window for me to see.

The screen displayed a breaking news alert from the local police department's social media page.

My brother had posted a heavily edited, cropped video online that made it look like I was the one aggressively attacking my sister on the patio.

He had officially filed a police report claiming that I had suffered a psychotic break and kidnapped a bleeding minor.

I was now a wanted fugitive in the eyes of the law.

I stepped away from the door, feeling the walls of the tiny medical room closing in on me.

My sister squeezed my hand, terrified by the loud police sirens suddenly echoing in the distance.

I knew the local police would hand her right back to my mother, completing whatever twisted plan they had set in motion.

Heavy, rhythmic footsteps approached the examination room from the main hospital corridor.

I braced myself, fully expecting a team of armed police officers to burst through the door and arrest me.

The deadbolt clicked loudly, and the heavy door slowly swung open.

It was not a police officer standing in the doorway.

It was an older man wearing a perfectly tailored, incredibly expensive Italian suit.

His silver hair was perfectly styled, and his sharp, piercing blue eyes locked onto me instantly.

I gasped in absolute shock as I recognized the face of my estranged billionaire grandfather.
