Chapter 4 - The Unlikely Ally

Eli and Jordan spun around in panic.

Bradley Whitmore was standing there holding the phone.

He was Mrs. Whitmore's son, the boy who was supposed to steal Jordan's scholarship.

Bradley watched the video of his mother humiliating Jordan.

His face turned completely pale as the cruel words echoed from the small speaker.

Jordan braced himself, expecting Bradley to permanently delete the evidence.

Instead, Bradley handed the phone back to Eli.

Bradley confessed that he hated his mother and the immense pressure she put on him.

He admitted that he never wanted to go to an Ivy League school in the first place.

He wanted to attend an art institute, but his mother had forbidden it.

Bradley told them that the deportation documents were currently locked in a safe inside his mother's private office.

If they could steal and destroy the physical documents, she would have no leverage left.

Jordan asked how they could possibly break into a high-security office building downtown.

Bradley pulled a shiny keycard from his wallet and smiled.

He told them he had stolen his mother's backup access pass that morning.

The three boys agreed to meet at the office building at midnight.

They sneaked past the sleeping security guard and rode the elevator to the top floor.

The office was dark, filled with expensive modern art and heavy mahogany furniture.

Bradley led them to a hidden wall safe behind a large painting.

He quickly typed in a six-digit code, and the heavy metal door clicked open.

Jordan reached inside and pulled out the thick file containing his mother's information.

He also grabbed a second file labeled with Bradley's name.

Jordan opened the second file and gasped out loud.

It contained financial receipts proving Mrs. Whitmore had bribed officials to change Bradley's standardized test scores.

Before they could celebrate their discovery, the heavy office door slammed shut behind them.

The electronic lock beeped loudly, sealing them inside the room.
