Chapter 1 - The Red Light

Mrs. Whitmore thought the camera was off.

That was exactly how she wanted it.

She locked the heavy wooden door of the empty chemistry lab.

Jordan stood by the whiteboard with his fists clenched tightly at his sides.

He was the top student in the senior class.

He was also a boy who lived in a trailer park on the wrong side of town.

Mrs. Whitmore walked toward him with a twisted smile on her face.

She ordered Jordan to get on his knees immediately.

Jordan stared at her in absolute disbelief.

He told her he would never kneel for someone like her.

Mrs. Whitmore pulled a thick manila envelope from her designer handbag.

She claimed the envelope contained fabricated evidence that he had cheated on all his final exams.

She promised to hand it to the principal unless Jordan withdrew his college applications.

Her son Bradley was second in the class, and she wanted that Ivy League scholarship for him.

She accused Jordan of stealing a future that belonged to her wealthy family.

She warned him that a poor kid with no father would never win a legal battle against her.

Jordan slowly lowered his body until his knees hit the cold tile floor.

Tears of pure humiliation burned in his eyes as he stared at the ground.

High above them, hidden inside the air conditioning vent, Eli held his breath.

Eli was the school's quiet tech genius who always preferred the shadows.

He held his smartphone steady, recording every single second of the cruel interaction.

He had noticed Mrs. Whitmore cutting the wire to the main security camera earlier that morning.

What she did not know was that Eli had secretly installed a wireless backup camera for the school's broadcasting club.

He had all the digital proof he needed to bring this horrible woman down.

He carefully shifted his weight to get a better angle of her face.

Suddenly, his elbow slipped against the dusty metal grate.

His phone dropped from his hands and clattered loudly against the thin aluminum floor of the vent.

May you like

Mrs. Whitmore’s head snapped upward toward the ceiling instantly.

She glared at the vent and reached deep into her purse for something heavy and metallic.
