Chapter 10 - The Reckoning

The deafening explosion of the flashbang grenade shattered the windows and instantly blinded everyone in the study.

I kept my eyes tightly shut, using my memory of the room to dive across the floor and tackle Marcus by the waist.

We violently crashed into the mahogany bookshelf, sending heavy volumes raining down upon our heads.

Marcus wildly swung his tactical knife in the blinding smoke, but I managed to grab his wrist and disarm him.

I delivered a brutal, merciless punch to his jaw, knocking him completely unconscious onto the shattered glass.

The terrifying wail of police sirens suddenly filled the night air as multiple armored vehicles smashed through the estate gates.

Dozens of real FBI tactical agents flooded the mansion, breaking down the study doors with heavy ballistic shields.

They immediately secured Marcus and dragged Helena out of the room, completely ignoring her pathetic screams for a lawyer.

The undercover agent brushed the dust off his suit, thanking me for perfectly stalling them while the raid team moved into position.

He handed me a secure radio, allowing me to hear the beautiful confirmation that Elias and Clara had been successfully rescued by federal units downtown.

The clock on the wall officially struck midnight, legally securing Clara’s massive inheritance and entirely erasing the Vale family's twisted empire.

Two weeks later, the nightmare was finally over, and Clara and I were safely relocated to a beautiful, sunlit hospital suite.

Helena and Marcus had been denied bail, facing multiple life sentences for conspiracy, attempted murder, and massive corporate fraud.

I sat in a comfortable rocking chair, holding my healthy, thriving baby boy as Clara smiled warmly at me from her hospital bed.

We had survived the ultimate betrayal, completely destroyed the monsters in our family, and secured a perfectly peaceful future for our son.

The incredible warmth of genuine happiness filled the room as I gently placed the sleeping baby into his bassinet.

Later that afternoon, I returned to our empty house to grab some clean clothes for Clara before the final discharge.

While packing her suitcase, I noticed a small, black burner phone taped carefully underneath her side of the bed.

I pulled it loose and opened the unread text message resting silently on the glowing screen.

It was from Dr. Crane, and the horrifying message read, "The child is mine, we execute phase two next week."
