Chapter 8 - The Forest Hunt

Ethan carried Lily completely through the freezing, incredibly dense woods for what felt like absolute, agonizing hours.

His severely injured shoulder burned with complete, intense agony with every single, desperate step he took through the thick mud.

He entirely realized that Nora was completely tracking them with highly unnatural, completely terrifying precision through the pitch-black forest.

He gently set Lily down under a large oak tree and frantically inspected her small, highly expensive winter coat.

His fingers completely brushed against a tiny, completely hidden electronic tracking bug brilliantly sewn deeply into the luxurious collar.

He aggressively ripped the tiny tracking device completely out of the fabric and violently threw it entirely into a rushing river.

"We are completely safe now, sweetheart, she cannot legally find us anymore," Ethan whispered, gently kissing Lily's freezing cheek.

They slowly continued their agonizing journey until they completely stumbled upon a small, heavily abandoned ranger station hidden in the trees.

Ethan quickly kicked the rotting wooden door open and safely carried Lily entirely into the dry, surprisingly warm interior.

He frantically completely searched the dusty room and miraculously found a heavy, old-fashioned rotary telephone resting quietly on the desk.

He picked up the heavy receiver, completely thrilled to hear a steady, beautifully clear dial tone echoing in his ear.

He desperately dialed the emergency police dispatcher and loudly shouted their exact physical location into the dusty phone.

"Please send armed officers immediately, we are being completely actively hunted by dangerous criminals!" Ethan begged furiously.

Suddenly, the clear phone line went completely and utterly dead with a highly terrifying, incredibly sharp electronic click.

Ethan desperately completely slammed the receiver down, entirely realizing that the phone lines had been violently cut from the outside.

The heavy, rotting wooden door of the ranger station was suddenly kicked violently completely open with a deafening crash.

Nora stepped completely into the dim light of the cabin, aggressively holding her hunting rifle completely steady in her hands.

She smiled a deeply wicked, completely emotionless smile as she completely cornered her terrified husband and his helpless child.

"I completely never loved you for a single, pathetic second, Ethan," the cold-blooded woman confessed entirely without mercy.

She slowly raised the deadly barrel of the rifle, entirely aiming it completely directly at Ethan's fiercely beating heart.
