Chapter 10 - The New Morning

The real Vanessa yanked aggressively on Valerie's ankle, violently pulling the psychotic impostor down to the floor and making her instantly drop the lit match.

The tiny, glowing flame miraculously landed directly in a muddy puddle of stagnant basement water, hissing loudly as it was completely extinguished instantly.

Without wasting a single second, Vanessa grabbed a heavy, solid iron flashlight from the dirt and aggressively struck Valerie across the side of her temple.

Valerie instantly collapsed heavily onto the cold ground, completely unconscious, bleeding, and finally no longer a deadly threat to our family.

My intense, terrifying paralysis finally began to wear off just as the loud, blaring wail of multiple police sirens loudly echoed outside the secluded cabin.

The distant neighbors had apparently heard the initial loud gunshot from the hunting rifle and immediately called the local authorities to investigate the loud disturbance.

Dozens of armed police officers quickly stormed the small cabin, properly arresting the unconscious Valerie and securely transporting her directly to a maximum-security prison.

After giving our extensive, exhausting statements to the stunned detectives, David, Vanessa, and Sophie were finally reunited, completely safe and intensely surrounded by love.

Several months later, we successfully used the insurance money to move far away to a beautiful, highly secure new house in a peaceful, quiet town.

Everything in our daily routine was perfectly normal again, and the horrific, deeply traumatizing nightmare was finally completely behind us.

That evening, I warmly tucked Sophie into her comfortable bed, pulling the soft blankets up to her chin and gently kissing her forehead with deep affection.

As she drifted off to sleep, I quietly walked over to her small wooden desk to organize the messy pile of scattered crayon drawings she had made that afternoon.

I casually flipped over a heavily colored piece of construction paper, my blood instantly running cold as I looked closely at the disturbing image.

The drawing clearly depicted three completely identical women standing closely together and holding hands in the dark woods.

The caption, written heavily in a childish, red scrawl, simply read, "Mommy's other sister is still hiding in the new walls."
