Chapter 9 - The Mastermind Revealed
Abigail slowly set the glass of brandy down on the glass coffee table.
The terrifying truth locked into place inside her mind.
Spencer was not smart enough to run a massive criminal syndicate on his own.
Vance, the trusted family lawyer, was the actual mastermind behind the entire operation.
He had been using Spencer as a puppet to control the illegal loan shark business.
Vance hung up the telephone and turned around with a sinister smile.
He saw Abigail staring directly at the incriminating blueprints.
He sighed deeply and admitted that he was disappointed she figured it out.
He explained that he had orchestrated Spencer's fake illness to slowly drain Abigail's life savings into his own offshore accounts.
He had also hired Cole and paid Doctor Aris to keep the scam running smoothly.
Abigail asked him why he would destroy her family for money he didn't even need.
Vance laughed coldly and revealed that he absolutely hated her late husband.
This entire elaborate plot was a sick revenge fantasy designed to leave Abigail destitute and heartbroken.
He pulled a silver revolver from his desk drawer and pointed it at her chest.
He told her that he was going to shoot her and claim it was self defense against a crazed client.
Abigail did not flinch or beg for mercy this time.
She simply smiled and pointed to the small flashing red light on Vance's computer monitor.
She explained that while he was pouring the brandy, she had activated his desktop webcam.
She had broadcasted his entire confession live to the FBI tip portal using a secure connection.
Vance looked at the monitor in absolute horror as he realized his career and life were destroyed.
Before he could turn the gun on himself, the penthouse doors were violently blown off their hinges.
Agent Naomi and a heavily armed tactical team stormed into the luxury apartment.
Naomi tackled Vance to the floor and secured his hands firmly behind his back.

She looked up at Abigail and offered a surprisingly warm smile.
She told Abigail that she was officially cleared of all charges.
