Chapter 5 - The Hostage Situation

Abigail felt the color drain entirely from her face.

Spencer had somehow tracked Naomi down and taken her hostage.

He spoke to his mother with a chilling and cruel calmness.

He admitted that he knew Doctor Aris had failed to finish the job.

He demanded that Abigail bring him the lottery ticket immediately.

If she refused, he promised to cut Naomi and the unborn baby to pieces.

Abigail tried to negotiate but Spencer simply hung up the phone.

She looked over at Cole and explained the desperate situation.

Cole loaded a fresh magazine into his pistol and grabbed a tactical vest from a duffel bag.

He told her that going to Spencer's location was absolute suicide.

Spencer operated out of an abandoned warehouse heavily guarded by corrupt private security.

Abigail refused to let an innocent woman and child die for her mistakes.

She told Cole she was going with or without him.

Cole admired her bravery and agreed to drive her to the warehouse.

They formulated a dangerous plan during the tense drive across the city.

Abigail would walk through the front door and surrender the ticket as a distraction.

Cole would infiltrate through the roof and take out the guards from above.

When they arrived at the decaying building, Abigail took a deep breath and stepped out of the truck.

She walked confidently into the massive room illuminated by harsh halogen lights.

Spencer was sitting on a metal chair with a terrified Naomi tied up beside him.

He smiled brightly and held his hand out for the winning ticket.

Abigail slowly reached into her pocket and pulled out the small piece of paper.

Suddenly, the halogen lights violently exploded into a shower of sparks.

Total darkness consumed the warehouse as gunfire erupted from the ceiling.

But the bullets were not aimed at Spencer's guards.

They were aimed directly at Abigail.
