Chapter 3 - The Race Against Venom

A burning sensation immediately spread through Abigail's veins.
Doctor Aris smiled maliciously as he pushed the plunger down.
Abigail swung the heavy wrench with all her remaining strength.
The metal struck the doctor across the jaw and sent him crashing to the pavement.
She pulled the syringe from her neck and stumbled backward.
Her vision was already beginning to blur at the edges.
Doctor Aris spat blood onto the asphalt and laughed.
He told her the injection was a lethal dose of potassium that would simulate a massive heart attack.
He promised her that she would be dead in less than ten minutes.
Abigail did not panic or surrender to the fear.
She rushed to her car and locked the doors.
Her hands trembled violently as she started the engine.
She remembered reading about a medical supply pharmacy just three blocks away from the hospital.
She slammed her foot on the gas pedal and sped out of the parking lot.
The world spun dangerously as her heart hammered violently against her ribs.
She crashed her car straight through the glass front doors of the closed pharmacy.
The alarm blared loudly into the empty street.
Abigail crawled out of the wreckage and dragged herself toward the emergency medical shelves.
She desperately searched for anything containing calcium gluconate to counteract the potassium.
Her fingers found a prefilled emergency syringe in a red trauma kit.
She injected the antidote directly into her own thigh just as darkness overtook her vision.
She lay on the floor surrounded by broken glass and waited to die.
Suddenly, her heart rhythm stabilized and the burning faded away.
She had miraculously survived the assassination attempt.
May you like
But as she tried to stand up, she heard the heavy crunch of boots on the broken glass.
A towering man in a black mask racked the slide of a shotgun and pointed it at her head.
