Chapter 2 - The Doctor's Greed

Abigail felt the diner walls closing in around her.
Her own son was plotting to kill her and his unborn child.
She asked Naomi how Spencer managed to fool the hospital staff.
Naomi explained that the lead physician was in on the scam.
Doctor Aris had been falsifying the blood tests and imaging reports for months.
Abigail remembered the kind smile Doctor Aris gave her every time she handed him a check for experimental treatments.
It was all a carefully orchestrated illusion to drain her bank accounts.
Naomi handed Abigail a small flash drive containing encrypted emails between Spencer and the doctor.
She warned Abigail that they needed to go to the police immediately.
But Abigail shook her head slowly.
She knew the police would need time to investigate and build a case.
Time was a luxury they simply did not have if a hitman was already hunting them.
Abigail told Naomi to go hide at a cheap motel on the outskirts of the city.
She promised to handle Doctor Aris herself and gather enough hard evidence to lock Spencer away forever.
Naomi slipped out the back door of the diner into the stormy night.
Abigail drove straight back to St Jude Community Hospital.
She parked in the dark employee lot and waited for Doctor Aris to end his shift.
An hour later, the arrogant physician walked toward his expensive sports car.
Abigail stepped out of the shadows and pressed a heavy wrench firmly against his spine.
She demanded the truth about her son's fake illness.
Doctor Aris laughed nervously and turned around to face her.
He mocked her for being a gullible old woman.
He confessed that he helped Spencer because Spencer was a ruthless loan shark who held the doctor's gambling debts.
Abigail realized her son was a dangerous criminal mastermind.

Before she could react, Doctor Aris pulled a syringe from his coat pocket.
He lunged forward and jammed the needle directly into her neck.
