Chapter 6 - The Floating Fortress

I woke up gasping for air, a blinding, localized pain throbbing intensely at the injection site on my neck.
My vision slowly swam into focus, revealing the luxurious, mahogany-paneled interior of a massive private yacht gently rocking on the ocean.
My hands were bound tightly behind my back with industrial-grade zip-ties, securing me to a heavy bolted chair in the center of the cabin.
I frantically looked around the opulent room, feeling a massive wave of relief wash over me when I saw Noah sleeping safely on a velvet couch.
The heavy mahogany door swung open, and Andrew walked into the cabin holding a crystal glass of expensive bourbon.
He looked completely relaxed, standing perfectly balanced against the sway of the massive luxury vessel cutting through the ocean waves.
I furiously strained against my plastic restraints, demanding to know why he had betrayed his own flesh and blood.
Andrew took a slow, deliberate sip of his drink and explained the brutal reality of his pathetic, cowardly existence.
He told me the cartel had finally tracked him down a month ago, threatening to torture and kill Maria and Noah if he did not cooperate.
Vanessa had offered him a simple, unforgivable deal to secure his family's absolute safety and secure his own freedom.
He simply had to deliver the current head of the Whitmore family to the cartel for a highly publicized execution.
I stared at the brother I had mourned for six years, utterly disgusted by the pathetic, broken monster standing before me.
I told him he was a coward who was actively helping a ruthless cartel murder his own brother just to save his own skin.
Andrew flinched slightly at my harsh words, but his cold, hardened exterior quickly returned to mask his internal guilt.
He informed me that the yacht was currently sailing into international waters, completely beyond the jurisdiction of any American law enforcement.
Once we crossed the maritime border, Vanessa and the cartel leadership would arrive via helicopter to complete the final financial transfer.
They needed my living biometric retina scan to unlock the primary Whitmore trust accounts before they permanently disposed of me.
I realized I only had a few precious hours to formulate an escape plan before the cartel completely sealed my fate.
I began silently twisting my wrists, secretly rubbing the sharp plastic edges of the zip-ties against a slightly exposed metal screw on the chair.
Andrew turned his back to pour himself another drink, completely unaware of my desperate, painful struggle for freedom.
Suddenly, the yacht's emergency alarm klaxons began blaring violently, echoing throughout the vessel's massive metal corridors.
The heavy cabin door burst open, and a heavily armed mercenary rushed in, looking completely terrified and out of breath.
He shouted that a heavily armed Coast Guard cutter had just intercepted their radar and was rapidly closing in on their position.
Andrew cursed loudly, drawing his weapon and sprinting out of the room to command the mercenary defense team.
May you like
I finally snapped the weakened zip-tie and jumped out of my chair, turning around to grab Noah from the velvet couch.
But the couch was completely empty, and standing in the corner of the room was Vanessa, holding a loaded gun directly to the child's head.
