Chapter 1 - The Missing Heir

I stood perfectly still in the sterile hospital room as Maria’s terrifying words echoed endlessly in my mind.

My younger brother Andrew was supposed to be resting peacefully at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

I asked Maria how long she had known the horrifying truth about his staged drowning.

She closed her swollen eyes and admitted she had known since the very beginning.

Andrew had meticulously orchestrated the tragic boating accident to escape massive, unforgivable debts to a criminal syndicate.

He left Maria completely alone, living in the shadows and pregnant with a child my wealthy family knew absolutely nothing about.

I felt a sickening, heavy knot form in my stomach as I realized the immense danger her innocent son was currently facing.

If Vanessa knew about Noah, she also understood the boy was the true legal heir to the entire Whitmore global estate.

My fiancée was not just trying to cover up a violent, drunken assault in my hallway tonight.

She was actively trying to eliminate the only biological threat to the billions of dollars she planned to inherit through our imminent marriage.

I promised Maria I would keep her son safe at all costs and sprinted frantically out of the quiet hospital ward.

I drove my sports car recklessly through the empty, fog-covered streets of Los Angeles toward the address she had whispered to me.

The neighborhood was deadly quiet and wrapped in heavy shadows when I finally reached the small, rundown apartment complex.

I ran up two flights of cracked concrete stairs and knocked urgently on the peeling wood of door number four.

There was no answer from inside the dark apartment.

I slowly turned the brass knob and felt my blood run cold when I found the door was completely unlocked.

The small living room had been heavily ransacked, with broken furniture and torn cushions scattered wildly across the cheap carpet.

I called out softly for Noah, but the only response was the distant, haunting wail of a police siren.

I walked cautiously into the narrow kitchen and noticed a shattered wooden picture frame lying discarded on the linoleum floor.

I knelt down and carefully picked up the torn photograph resting dangerously among the shards of broken glass.

It was a candid picture of my deceased brother Andrew smiling brightly on a sunny, tropical beach.

But the beautiful woman kissing his cheek in the hidden photograph was not Maria.

It was my fiancée, Vanessa.

Suddenly, the heavy wooden front door slammed shut behind me with a deafening crash.

May you like

A cold, metallic gun barrel pressed firmly against the back of my skull before I could even turn around.

"You really should have stayed in your Beverly Hills mansion, Daniel," a deep, unfamiliar voice whispered maliciously into my ear.
