Chapter 6 - The Secret Investigator

Dad pushed me behind the heavy oak sofa and raised the iron poker high above his head.

The front door swung open slowly, letting a freezing gust of wind sweep through the cabin.

A tall man wearing a dark trench coat and a wide-brimmed hat stepped inside.

He raised both of his hands in the air to show he was completely unarmed.

He introduced himself as Arthur, a private investigator hired by my mother just weeks before her death.

Arthur closed the door and turned on a small, blinding tactical flashlight.

He explained that my mother knew Grandma was slowly poisoning her meals.

She had hired Arthur to find concrete proof, but she ran out of time before he could finish the job.

Arthur had been secretly watching our family for the last seven years, waiting for Grandma to make a mistake.

He pulled a thick manila envelope from his coat and tossed it onto the coffee table.

Inside the envelope were bank statements showing a massive offshore trust fund in my name.

My wealthy grandfather had secretly left me ten million dollars before he died.

The money was locked in a trust that I could only access when I turned eighteen.

However, there was a hidden medical clause buried deep in the fine print.

If I became permanently disabled or died, the entire fortune would legally transfer directly to my Grandma.
