Chapter 4 - The Hidden Autopsy

My breath caught in my throat at the mention of my mother.

Grandma had always told me that Mom died in a tragic car accident on a rainy night.

I stared at the poisoned coffee and felt a deep, overwhelming wave of terror.

Before Grandma could force the cup to my lips, Doctor Mercer slapped it out of her hand.

The dark liquid spilled across the linoleum floor, hissing slightly as it ate through the floor wax.

Doctor Mercer ordered the police to arrest her for attempting to drug a minor in a medical facility.

The officers finally placed her in heavy steel handcuffs and read her her rights.

Grandma did not scream or fight as they marched her out of the clinic doors.

She just looked over her shoulder and smiled directly at my father.

Dad ran back into the room and dropped to his knees right beside me.

He promised he would hire the best lawyer in the state to revoke her custody arrangement.

Doctor Mercer took my father into his private office to discuss my medical history.

He showed Dad a series of x-rays taken of my spine over the last two years.

My spine was completely straight and perfectly healthy.

The heavy plastic brace was never meant to fix my posture.

It was specifically designed to slowly crush my internal organs over time.
