Chapter 3 - The Empty Wreckage

My brother-in-law fell to his knees in the broken safety glass.

He stared at the empty, blood-soaked seat in complete disbelief.

The seatbelt had been sliced clean through with a very sharp blade.

This was not a tragic accident, but a calculated abduction from the crash site.

I ran up behind him, clutching my nephew tightly to my chest.

The baby began to cry again, the sound piercing the eerie silence of the industrial park.

I looked around the desolate area, searching for any sign of where she could have been taken.

There were distinct drag marks in the dirt leading away from the crashed vehicle.

The marks headed directly toward a massive, abandoned factory building nearby.

Someone had pulled her from the wreckage and dragged her inside the dark structure.

My brother-in-law stood up, his eyes hardening into a cold, terrifying stare.

He grabbed a heavy iron tire iron from the open trunk of my car.

He told me to stay in the vehicle with his son and lock all the doors for safety.

I refused to let him go into that dark building completely alone.

I told him we were a family and we would face this nightmare together.

We crept cautiously toward the rusted metal doors of the factory.

The inside of the building was cavernous and smelled of rotting wood and damp concrete.

Faint light filtered through the broken skylights high above our heads, casting long shadows.

We followed the trail of crimson blood droplets across the dusty factory floor.

The trail led directly to a small management office in the back corner of the warehouse.

A single lightbulb flickered inside the room, illuminating a horrific scene.

We heard a muffled whimpering sound coming from inside the enclosed space.

My brother-in-law raised the tire iron and kicked the wooden door wide open.

My sister was tied to a metal chair in the center of the room.

She was bruised and bleeding heavily from the crash, but she was still alive.

We rushed forward to untie the heavy ropes binding her delicate wrists.

She looked at us with sheer panic in her wide, tear-filled eyes.

She tried to speak frantically through the silver duct tape covering her mouth.

I ripped the tape off as gently as I could manage under the circumstances.

She gasped for air and screamed for us to get out of the room immediately.

She said the crash was just a distraction to lure us to this exact confined location.

Before we could turn around to leave, the heavy steel door slammed shut behind us.

A loud click echoed through the room as the deadbolt locked from the outside.

A metal canister rolled through a small vent in the wall, his hiss violently.

Thick, white chemical smoke began to fill the small room, burning our lungs instantly.
