Chapter 9 - The Trap Closes

The heavy silence in the boardroom was absolutely suffocating as Spencer wildly aimed the silver revolver directly at my head.
The United States Marshals immediately drew their own weapons, loudly screaming for Spencer to drop the gun before they opened fire.
"I will kill her right now, I swear to God I will pull the trigger!" Spencer screamed, tears of pure, desperate rage streaming down his face.
"You completely ruined my entire life, Laura, you selfish, miserable woman!" he yelled, aggressively blaming me for his own horrific crimes.
I stood perfectly still in my red suit, absolutely refusing to show this pathetic, broken man even a single ounce of fear.
"You ruined your own life, Spencer, the exact moment you decided to violently sacrifice my unborn child to save yourself from a cartel," I stated with absolute, icy calmness.
The entire Board of Directors audibly gasped in pure horror, finally realizing the true, monstrous depth of Spencer's complete depravity.
Chloe aggressively covered her face with her hands, sobbing uncontrollably as the entire criminal empire she tried to build violently collapsed around her.
"I just wanted the money, Laura, I never wanted anyone to get physically hurt!" Chloe wailed pitifully from her leather chair.
"You are just as guilty as he is, Chloe, and you are going to rot in the exact same federal prison," I coldly promised my former protege.
Spencer’s hands were shaking so violently that the heavy metal barrel of the gun was visibly rattling in the air.
He aggressively pulled the hammer of the revolver back, clearly preparing to make the worst, final mistake of his miserable existence.
Before his sweating finger could even twitch on the trigger, Mister Miller brutally tackled Spencer from behind with incredible force.
The heavy gun aggressively fired off a single, deafening shot, but the bullet completely missed me and shattered the massive glass window behind my chair.
Spencer violently crashed into the mahogany table, shattering the expensive wood before falling heavily onto the carpeted floor.
Four heavily armed United States Marshals instantly swarmed him, violently pinning his arms behind his back and tightly securing the heavy metal handcuffs.
Spencer aggressively thrashed and screamed like a wild animal, completely losing his mind as he was brutally dragged away from my presence.
Chloe did not even attempt to run or fight back when the federal agents aggressively pulled her out of her chair.
She simply hung her head in total, absolute defeat, quietly holding out her wrists to be legally handcuffed and arrested.
The United States Attorney General slowly walked over to me, carefully brushing a few pieces of shattered glass off the main table.
"Missus Vanguard, I am incredibly sorry for the extreme danger you were just placed in today," the powerful official apologized sincerely.
"The Delgado cartel was aggressively raided and completely dismantled by our elite federal forces exactly one hour ago," he happily informed me.
I took a deep, shaky breath, finally letting the massive, crushing weight of the last eight years slowly lift off my tired shoulders.
"Thank you, sir, I truly appreciate your swift and decisive action," I replied with a genuinely grateful smile.
"We have also successfully arrested Arthur Sterling and Evelyn Davenport at your mansion for massive fraud and criminal trespassing," he proudly added.
The thought of Evelyn aggressively crying in the back of a dirty police cruiser brought a deeply satisfying warmth to my heart.
"Mister Miller, please firmly ensure that the corporate cleaning crew entirely disinfects this boardroom before tomorrow morning," I calmly ordered my loyal lawyer.
I aggressively straightened my red blazer and confidently walked out of the ruined room, leaving the absolute chaos of my enemies entirely behind me.
Exactly two weeks later, the massive legal nightmare was finally over, and I had successfully reclaimed every single thing they tried to steal.
The fraudulent mansion deed was legally reversed, the illegal cartel loan was entirely nullified, and Penelope’s family was completely bankrupted.
I was finally standing alone on the beautiful balcony of my Coral Gables mansion, peacefully watching the beautiful sunset while sipping a glass of incredibly expensive red wine.

Suddenly, my private, highly encrypted cell phone aggressively buzzed with an anonymous text message from an untraceable number.
I slowly opened the strange message, and the wine glass violently slipped from my hand, shattering completely on the hard stone floor.
